How we protect your data online
When placing an order, we require personal information from you such as your name, e-mail address, contact telephone number, credit or debit card details. This information is necessary so we can process your order and notify you of acceptance of your order.
Our website uses secure server data software to protect your personal details when you place an order with us or access your account information. The information you input onto the order system prior to it being received by us is encrypted by the secure server software (see ‘what is encryption’ below for further details). Furthermore we adhere to the terms of the Data Protection Act 1988 to protect any information we store about you from unauthorised access.
How do we protect the information we hold about you on our internal systems?
Your privacy is protected in several ways:
- Access to customer account information is restricted solely to those individuals who need access to fulfil your order.
- Secure log-in and password controls are in place on all of our internal electronic systems.
- All representatives of the Company are bound by confidentiality clauses.
- Database and confidentiality access controls are reviewed regularly and updated to further protect personal data.
- Telephone calls to/from us may be recorded for staff training purposes as well as our own security. Such recordings and emails may be supplied to law enforcement or anti-fraud agencies if required.
Is any data passed onto a third party?
We are committed to protecting your privacy therefore, apart from the delivery address for your goods no other personal data is transferred to third parties.
We may be forced to disclose information by the government or other law enforcement agencies or in connection with the investigation of unlawful activities; third party may also unlawfully intercept or access transmission or private communication. These are exceptions to our policy of protecting the privacy and confidentiality of your information.
Use of cookies
Our cookies do not collect or contain any personal data about you. They are only used to determine browser and user preferences for the Jessica Jones Lighting website. We may collect information about your computer, including if available your IP address, operating system and browser type, for system administration and in house analysis, this is only statistical data about our user’s actions and does not identify any individual.
Payment Security
Security of credit or debit cards
We appreciate security is a prime concern for many of our customers, so please rest assured we take online security seriously. We have a highly secure system in place so you can shop at ease with us over the Internet.
Digital signatures are used throughout the system to ensure all transactions arriving at the gateway are from an identifiable merchant, and any information passed back to the merchant is from a PayPal gateway. Each signature uniquely identifies its source. Gateways communicate with each other and with the control system using such digital signatures. In the event a merchant’s digital signature becomes a security risk (i.e. if their server is stolen), the appropriate signature will be immediately revoked and no longer function within the system.
PayPal is the approved Certification Authority (root CA) for these signatures.
What is encryption?
Using 128-bit encryption our Secure Sockets Layer protocol (SSL) provides the highest security level commercially possible. This means that even if the data is intercepted, it cannot be read. Sagepay and PayPal use SSL encryption which encrypts data with a key of up to 128-bits. On their own servers and gateways an even higher level of 2048-bit RSA encryption is used. Once your order has been gone through our order processing system all credit/debit card details are removed from the website. Therefore each time you place an order with us you will need to re-input your card details. Whilst this may be a minor inconvenience this gives you peace of mind to shop safely with Jessica Jones Lighting.
